Story Starter Ideas
I’m sort of in a slump right now… no truer words have been written on this blog so far this year. I’m plenty busy, like everyone else on the planet, writing for everyone else. But I don’t seem to find the time to write for myself. I put it off and put it off until it is too late in the day, and I’m tired and just don’t have the energy to write.
I know this. So why does the siren song of other tasks, whether they are answering email, scrolling through Amazon’s daily deals for Kindle books, writing web copy for a dumpster company in Alabama, or even emptying a dishwasher takes priority to my creative writing process? In a word, it is “RESISTANCE.” And Steven Pressfield, author of The War of Art, says it best:
“The more important a call or action to our soul’s evolution, the more Resistance we will feel toward pursuing it.”
Steven Pressfield, The War of Art
This work is important to me. Writing fiction is also important to me. This should be a positive sign that I’m going in the right direction. I feel the resistance, and succumb to it most of the time lately, but not always. This is just a slump, and maybe this is just what I needed to get back on track.
